Web Common Structure

Web Common Structure

Ever feel like you reinvent the wheel each time you generate a new HTML document?

Ever wish you could avoid a new combination of elements, ids, and classes for every site you create? Since the birth of the Web, we've created freeform structures within the confines of markup specs and browser support.

In HTML, we use a head and a body, yet inside that body, anything is fair game. Microformats exist as a means of standardizing pieces of a document. But we need something to tie the pieces together. Something on a macro level. An optional framework adopted voluntarily that creates a predictable consistency. I'll review the tangible benefits and exciting potential of standardizing such a structure. What this structure might look like. How it could be adopted. And how others' attempts at standardizing on smaller scales could guide a global effort to develop a standard page structure anyone could use.
